County Durham distributor Howell Cummings has developed its first ever prefabricated fully-serviced catering kiosk facility for a school in Kent.
The unit will get its first taste of action tomorrow when Erith School re-opens after the summer break.
Julian Edwards of FCSI consultancy GY5 Catering Consultants was asked to provide a concept for a new remote service point within the school and initially the job was going to involve adapting and extending the existing dining area.
“Due to lack of internal space and large pupil numbers, we considered a remote catering unit. Howell Cummings came up with a bespoke unit that exactly met the design brief,” he said.
The outlet will provide relief where internal space and potential for overcrowding within an existing school dining area are already being experienced, and provide a ‘fresh air’ healthy catering alternative within the school grounds.
The facility and equipment inside it will also be able to be used when sporting or social functions take place at the school outside of classroom hours. While each kiosk provides an ideal solution for a permanent pitch, it is designed for easy removal and repositioning to another location.
Each unit comes with a high quality external facade, a steel powder coated coloured access door and security roller shutter, two full length high grade stainless steel counters and work surfaces, non slip vinyl flooring, stainless steel sinks, instant hot water, mixer taps and electrically operated water pump.
Howell Cummings says that additional equipment can be tailormade and agreed with the school or client.
Equipment options include, under counter storage, refrigerated, hot or ambient glass display merchandiser, glass door drinks fridge, inset basins, prep sink, Panini type contact grill, under counter fridge and shelving.
