Academies in Bedfordshire are being offered the chance to purchase advice on buying catering equipment from local council chiefs for £65 a year.
Bedford Borough Council said that schools which have freedom from council control can now ‘buy back’ a range of services that it offers for a flat fee.
The council is understood to have sent out brochures outlining a range of packages that allow schools to obtain unlimited advice and support on various areas.
Bedfordshire News reported that the packages include a catering advisory service which offers professional advice and support on all catering related matters, including advice on catering equipment. The annual charge is £65 an year.
A spokeswoman for the council told the news source that all academies had taken up some services, but they also all free to buy others from alternative providers.
Close to a dozen schools in the Bedford Borough have academy status.
Bedford Borough Council will advise academies on all catering related matters for a small fee.
