Fox Catering Equipment has launched a service that is designed to help kitchen owners comply with new gas safe regulations in an affordable and efficient manner.
The Sheffield-based company has assembled a team of qualified, expert engineers from varied catering industry backgrounds to carry out technical checks and ensure compliance with gas safety regulations.
The company says it has launched the service in response to the increasing numbers of commercial kitchens that are being forced into temporary closure for non-compliance with new health and safety regulations.
“The typical scenario is that a Gas Safe engineer attends site to install a new piece of gas equipment and instead issues a forced closure notice of the kitchen for not observing the correct health and safety regulations,” said Ben Senior, managing director at Fox Catering Equipment.
Senior said gas interlock breaches were the most significant issue, but inadequate overhang of the extraction canopy itself, insufficient air being extracted, insufficient replacement air being supplied or even the build-up of carbon dioxide were all things that unsuspecting customers often overlook.
Fox’s team provides a full advisory service to ensure standards such as DW172, DW144 & BS 1673 for the canopies and BS6173 for the gas safety equipment are fully satisfied.
“For a kitchen manager with limited knowledge of this side of the industry the task of coordinating and arranging these works independently would be daunting to say the least,” said Senior.
