Compass shows animal instincts with new kiosks

Compass Group has teamed up with 442 Design to reconfigure three food kiosks that it operates at Edinburgh Zoo.

Compass landed the £2.6m a year contract at Edinburgh Zoo last year and currently runs all of the catering outlets within the site.

The new kiosks form part of the second phase of a major programme of investment in catering outlets at the zoo and follow the creation of the Grasslands Restaurant and Jungle Food Court.

The development of the three latest eateries will mean visitors can now tuck into tempting treats from The Gourmet Popcorn kiosk and Sweetie Shop and make the most of the summer sunshine with the Big Griller BBQ, a new outdoor BBQ space.

“We have refurbished a disused ice cream kiosk to become the new ‘on trend’ Gourmet Popcorn Kiosk, while the Big Griller is an outdoor barbeque space that transforms the existing picnic area into a commercial space with a retail function,” said David Dunn, managing director of 442 Design.

He added: “The new area is also ideal for large groups and events, and can be packaged as part of an after-hours corporate package or VIP area. Additional seats have been added and the quick BBQ grilled snacks are a great option to the more traditional hot food offered in the indoor restaurants. The Big Griller area uses timber bench seating and large format chalkboard style graphics to create a contemporary and funky ambience.”
