Porkka UK has supplied a modular step-in cold room to the Brighton & Hove branch of food distribution charity FareShare.
Funded by the National Lottery, the new cold store has helped FareShare increase its storage capacity for chilled foods.
FareShare is a national charity that rescues good quality surplus food that would otherwise go to waste, redistributing it to over 700 charities and community projects across the country.
The food is supplied mostly by manufacturers, distributors and wholesalers throughout the supply chain and is always within its ‘best before’ or ‘use by’ date.
Seb Handelman, assistant project manager at the Brighton & Hove branch, said: “Donations of food have been growing steadily as more suppliers become aware of FareShare and we needed more storage capacity for the chilled foods. Consequently we applied for National Lottery funding and carried out a competitive tender exercise with various cold room manufacturers. Porkka wasn’t the cheapest but the specification and quality clearly offered the best value.”
As well as helping to meet growing storage requirements, Porrka said its exclusive shelving design is a major advantage of the unit as it provides a greater surface area for storage while facilitating cleaning.
