CKS eyes the personal touch with March ‘open week’

Blackpool kitchen house CKS Catering Equipment is planning to hold an ‘open week’ at its showroom in March as it looks to put the personal touch back into the market.

CKS will invite chefs and caterers to spend time in its store, meet staff and enjoy one-on-one demonstrations of the products it offers.

The company has exhibited at the Lancashire Catering & Hospitality Expo for the last couple of years, but decided that instead of taking part in the 2012 show it would put its energy into organising its own showroom event.

Julie Willis from CKS’ sales department explained: “We decided it would be more valuable to hold an open day here as we have got the showroom to be able to do it. We sell everything from teaspoons up to coffee machines and combi ovens, and we’ll be holding demonstrations and prize draws.”

The open week will take place between March 12th and 16th.

CKS’ showroom is normally open for business between 8am and 5pm during the working week, with a half-day opening on Saturdays.

Key CKS manufacturing brands such as Dawson Lainox, Falcon and Robot Coupe are all likely to be involved in the event.

Willis believes the open week will help CKS reach out to customers that it doesn’t always get to see.

“A lot of our customers are very busy so this is an opportunity for them to come in, have a coffee with us and see a demonstration as we’ll have a number of the reps here,” she said. “We normally send out a catalogue to our customers every six months, but they don’t always see what’s available in the showroom so it’s a chance for us to familiarise ourselves with them and meet on a more personal basis.”

As well as sales through its showroom, CKS offers design, planning and installation services for commercial kitchen projects. The family-run firm employs 14 staff and has been operating since 1977.
