Chris Galvin briefs catering equipment course

The first group of industry professionals taking the CPD course in Kitchen and Equipment and Production Techniques were yesterday treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of The Dorchester.

Those on the course, which is part of the CEDA, CESA, FCSI Tri Education CPD programme, were taking part in a day-long job-specific training event in London that also saw them visit Galvin Bistro de Luxe near Baker Street.

Restaurateur Chris Galvin addressed the 14 students and spoke passionately about kitchen design and how supportive he was of this high level of industry training.

Jack Phillips from C&C Catering Equipment, who is taking the course, said: “The tour of the Dorchester was excellent — great to see a large working kitchen in action. It was a brilliant talk by Chris Galvin as well, and really good to hear someone speak with such passion about kitchen design.”

Michael Faparusi, CAD technician with Chillerbox, added: “The visits have definitely been very educational and thought provoking.”

The Kitchen and Equipment and Production Techniques CPD is the first job specific training course that CEDA, CESA and FCSI are collectively delivering for members and non members under the Tri Education banner.

Next year the course will be repeated and new ones are being developed for Customer Service, Project Management and Consultancy Skills.

Investing in training our staff not only increases their skill, it raises moral and that in turn creates a happy enthusiastic employee who radiates positively in the work place and externally to customers,” said Vita Whitaker, CEDA vice-chairman.
