Crystaltech MD Derek Maher is the new CEDA vice chair.

Distributor association CEDA has announced Derek Maher as its new vice chair.

He is MD and founder of Crystaltech, the UK’s largest independent company specialising in the installation and servicing of all makes and models of commercial glasswashers and dishwashers.

At the CEDA board meeting in December 2018, Maher was formally appointed to the position and will assume the chair role at the AGM in April 2019.

He replaces Phil Howard of Catering Design Group, who stood down due to a significant increase in business, meaning he would be unable to give the chair role the commitment he would have wanted to. However, Howard has still remained on the board.

Maher commented: “With a background in marine engineering, major projects and industrial metallurgy my wife Maxine and I formed the basis of Crystaltech from our garage in 1980 with myself as the first (and only) engineer. From that perspective I am able to understand the challenges that face CEDA members of all sizes.

“I have been a very active member of the CEDA Technical Steering Group for a number of years and have seen first-hand how that has helped to improve industry standard and our membership.

“In the role as CEDA vice chair, I hope to build on the links that I have with other associations and institutions to the benefit of our CEDA membership and the industry as a whole.”

Director general Adam Mason commented: “Derek is very personable and incredibly giving of his time and vast knowledge for the betterment of the association, fellow members and the industry at large. I very much look forward to working closely with Derek during his tenure as chair.”

  1. No mention of the fact that Crystatech is part of Maidaid! which means its not actually independent….
Pleased for Derek but lets be clear please

    1. I do understand your point and I always make our associations with Maidaid very clear to our customers. We are fiercely ethical and are also the service provider to Electrolux, Smeg, Wexiodisk, Granuldisk and support many others in the industry. Each of our Manufacturer partners will confirm that they consider us to be an independent and they are all treated on the same with no favoritism or transfer of confidential information. I will ask our marketing team to amend the wording and thank you for your comment.

  2. @The Oracle. 6mins to comment, you must be busy today!! Why don’t you put us all out our misery and identify yourself. A faceless opinion isn’t worth much unless we know where its coming from. I dare you……………….

Congratulations to Derek, an asset to the industry and a fountain of knowledge, I’m sure he’ll do a great job for all involved.

    1. Based on your comment “A faceless opinion is isnt worth much unless we know where its coming from. I dare you……………….” your comment is also clearly not worth much either!! LOL

I have the highest regard for Derek and doubt there is anyone else in the warewashing industry with as much knowledge but like I said before Crystaltech is NOT independent, there’s nothing wrong with that other than the inaccurate statement claim that they are.
