West Midlands Police are appealing for witnesses to a bungled robbery which left one man dead at the Direct Source 3 catering supplies warehouse in Digbeth, Birmingham.

Akhtar Javeed, the director of the company, was gunned down outside his premises by masked robbers on 3 February.

The police force released CCTV footage showing a silver Renault Megane that is suspected as being used for the raid parking up in the street nearby.

According to the BBC, Det Supt Mark Payne detailed that five staff members were handcuffed with cable ties during the attempted robbery, and it appeared Javeed was shot while fighting off the attackers.

Detectives are also keen to speak to two people who may be witnesses – a worker pushing a bike and a private hire taxi driver in a Toyota Avensis that followed the vehicle in which the masked robbers fled.

Direct Source provides catering sundries such as plastic cutlery, food containers and cleaning products to the UK hospitality industry from three nationwide branches.
