C&C Catering Equipment is to add another five-star London hotel to its roster after receiving the green light to refurbish the Mandarin Oriental’s kitchen facilities.
Installation work at the Hyde Park venue is scheduled for completion by the end of September and includes new coldrooms, ventilation hoods and warewashing facilities for the hotel’s basement kitchen area.
The redesign of the catering facilities at the hotel, which is home to Bar Boulud, Dinner by Heston and the Mandarin Bar, was done by SeftonHornWinch.
Along with a range of new equipment supply, C&C will be removing a range of existing items, hygienically cleaning them, refurbishing them to the hotel’s exacting standards and then re-installing them.
Re-designed extraction hoods are also required, with special consideration of the basement area’s low ceilings adding an extra dimension to the work.
As the hotel needs to stay operational during the two months of work, C&C is splitting the project into three phases, with two areas remaining open while one is being completed.
C&C says it was asked to tender for the project directly to the Mandarin Oriental due to its expertise with challenging historical hotel buildings. The successful completion of a project at Cafe Royal during the past year also went in its favour.
Alan Rushbrook, the Mandarin’s technical services director, said: “We needed a supplier that could work to our high standards and who understood the complexities of projects in historic buildings, as well as a track record of working in a live hotel environment.”
