Caterware kits out Man City’s stadium

Caterware has carried out a major refit of the catering facilities at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium for new catering partner Fabulous Fan Fayre, a joint venture between Legends Hospitality and Jamie Oliver’s Fabulous Feasts.

58 fast food kiosks and six hospitality suite kitchens have been completely re-designed and re-fitted together with five hospitality box kitchens, all backed up by an enlarged state-of-the-art central production kitchen.

In all, more than 1,250 individual items of equipment were supplied and installed within a five-week window to include new combination ovens, fryers, water boiler stations, cold storage rooms, refrigerated cabinets, counters and drinks coolers within a groundbreaking multimillion pound plan to deliver an enhanced food capability.

The club will also benefit with a streamlining and consistency of catering workflows coupled with optimum energy efficiency.

Plans for the project were first drawn up in early 2013 by Manchester City’s consultant executive chef John Benson-Smith ahead of the build project over a busy summer period at the Etihad Stadium, which hosted concerts, sporting and social events.

Caterware has experience of handling high volume, quality-orientated projects and the football club appointed it to become its exclusive supplier to fit out, refurbish and deliver the scheme.

The company completed the contract using its experienced project management personnel, who it says “virtually lived on site” within offices at the stadium during the project.

Mark Drazen, managing director of Blackpool-based Caterware, said: “This was always going to be an extraordinary and intense project, but the preparation by the Etihad Stadium team prior to our arrival meant we were able to commence work from day one.”

He added: “Through continual liaison with the MCFC project management team, our own personnel were able to deliver to the highest of standards and we are extremely proud to be associated with such a prestigious end result. Working with Manchester City has allowed Caterware to demonstrate the very latest in cooking systems within a totally diverse but integrated Stadium environment.”

Caterware has carried out work at the Etihad Stadium before. In 2011 it refurbished the ‘Legends’ Lounge’ at the venue, which won the company a CEDA award.
