Catering Insight Awards 2021: Distributor of the Year – Corporate Social Responsibility shortlist

The Catering Insight Distributor of the Year – Corporate Social Responsibility accolade, sponsored by DC Products, recognises those UK dealers who are outstanding corporate citizens. This could be through their work to be efficient and environmentally aware, or demonstrating excellent health and safety standards, or for those who have thrown their backing behind important charitable initiatives.

Therefore the shortlist for 2021 is:

Abraxas Catering Equipment

Abraxas Catering Equipment in Droitwich has continued its strong support for its local Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, helping the service to accrue the £10m+ it costs to maintain it annually. The distributor pledged to donate £3 to the charity for every Gas Safe inspection it undertook in 2021. Furthermore, sales director Mike Nixon and sales manager Richard Roberts each cycled 54 miles through Shropshire and Worcestershire as part of the charity’s Air 30 Airbase Challenge to mark its 30th anniversary, which raised a further £500.

Ceba Solutions

Hampshire distributor Ceba Solutions has a strong focus on corporate social responsibility and strives to play a leading role in supporting community initiatives locally, as well as ensuring it offers opportunities to people from different backgrounds and with varying interests. Furthermore, the distributor offers all of its employees the opportunity to take paid time off for one day a year in support of community-based or charitable organisations, and this year the business itself chose to support a local charity providing ‘hospice at home’ services through fundraising.

Fulcrum Commercial Kitchens

Marlborough-based distributor, Fulcrum Commercial Kitchens, has demonstrated unceasing support to its local Julia’s House children’s hospice. Building on its £2,400 donation from last year, Fulcrum is part of the hospice’s ‘Business Club’, which enables companies to make a monthly donation to the cause, with a minimum commitment of £100 a month. Julia’s House provides practical and emotional support for families in Dorset and Wiltshire caring for a child with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, providing frequent and regular support in their own homes, in the community or at its hospices.

Keeling Catering Engineers

This year, Warrington-headquartered servicing specialist Keeling Catering Engineers assisted local charity, Shannon’s Community Centre, by servicing its Rational combi oven free of charge. The firm’s technician ensured that the complimentary service maintained the operational efficiency and performance of the Rational combi, reducing any potential downtime. The centre originally asked the dealer if it was willing to provide a discount, due to difficult times, and so was overjoyed when Keeling took the extra step of undertaking the work free of charge.

Vision Commercial Kitchens

From the pandemic’s outset, Vision Commercial Kitchen made its staff a priority, and that has continued in 2021. With the relaxing of restrictions earlier this year, Vision’s board took the decision to continue with homeworking where possible to protect them, with only a limited number of staff working from the office. Externally, Vision has continued to support its charity of the year, The Christie cancer charity, launching the Vision Miles challenge to remotely walk, run and cycle as many miles as possible, so far raising £2,295.
