Heavy equipment is at the heart of commercial kitchens, be it in the form of cooking equipment, refrigerators, warewashers or more. The winner of the Catering Insight Awards Supplier Heavy Equipment category, sponsored by Commercial Kitchen, will be whichever company is judged to have produced the most innovative heavy duty appliances for sale through the distributor channel over the past year.

Therefore the contenders are:

Thanks to Alto-Shaam’s Structured Air Technology, the Vector series of multi-cook ovens can cook twice as much food up to two-times faster than their traditional counterparts. The patented technology enables high velocity, focused heat for faster, more even cooking. Featuring up to four independent chambers, users can control the temperature, fan speed and time in each individual oven chamber for maximum flexibility. The latest Vector H countertop model features a new design, advanced user-friendly interface, and the ability to customise each oven with colours to match a customer’s desired front-of-house experience.

Electrolux Professional
When it was launched in March 2019, Electrolux Professional’s SkyLine range, which includes the SkyLine ChillS blast chiller and the SkyLine Premiums, Premium, and Pro combi ovens, raised the bar for commercial kitchen equipment. The combi oven combines pioneering ergonomics and a revolutionary air circulation system. The blast chiller is able to cut food waste by up to 35%, by only regenerating food as and when needed, with nine special cycles spanning -41°C to +40°C. The appliances connect using the SkyDuo system, enabling the combi oven to automatically alert the blast chiller to prepare for chilling, or vice versa.

Falcon Foodservice Equipment
In its 200th year, Falcon has added Lainox High Speed Ovens to its roster, designed for caterers with limited space who require speed and cooking quality. The ovens incorporate three methods of heat delivery: microwave, convection and impingement, giving fast cooking with toasting and browning. Each method can be programmed individually to give the desired results in a fraction of the time of conventional appliances. Installation is easy as they don’t require an extraction hood, due to their ventless technology. Falcon’s dealer training programmes now include information to help them sell, install and service this range more easily.

Hobart has revolutionised the warewasher market with the launch of its Two-Level Washer. The machine is designed to save time, energy, water and space while doubling the capacity and productivity of a conventional hood-type, by way of an additional washing chamber. At peak times, a utensil wash programme can take care of heavily soiled pots, pans and cutlery in the lower compartment, while up to three racks of dishes can be washed on a separate programme in the upper level. The machine’s ‘Genius-X² Fine Filter System’ cleans soiled water in three steps, reducing detergent consumption by up to 35%.

Over the past 12 months, leading cold solutions supplier Hoshizaki has launched three new products to the UK market – the most recent being the GA 950: a top-of-the-range 3-in-1 refrigerator/freezer/prover. This all-in-one product significantly reduces the footprint required within the kitchen to offer an in-house baking solution as well as cutting the need to power three separate appliances. The unit boasts pioneering baking-specific technology and individual program settings. Plus Hoshizaki UK recently launched an online partner portal which is designed to provide exclusive information and support to its network of dealers.
