The special Catering Insight Distributor of the Year – Nationwide Award, sponsored by Rational, will recognise a major distributor which has completed mammoth commercial kitchen projects to a high standard, up and down the country, while still offering a personalised, sterling service.

The shortlist is therefore:

Airedale Catering Equipment
Airedale Catering Equipment remains the top-earning kitchen design house group in the UK, with its latest annual report detailing its profitability increased significantly due to a combination of higher gross margins and lower overhead expenditure. In the past 12 months the firm has invested in its 40,000ft2 fabrication factory in West Yorkshire with a state-of-the-art laser cutting machine, another bench press and SolidWorks 3D design software. Furthermore, a 3-month pilot scheme it conducted with a key care home account could save the operator over £235,000 annually by switching to Lincat’s new Phoenix induction range.

C&C Catering Equipment
C&C Catering Equipment recorded its highest turnover to date during its 2018/2019 financial year due to a growing number of works throughout the UK, as well as heading to Ireland and Holland. The firm has brought on four more team members to strengthen its service both at its Chester headquarters and nationwide, with remotely based project managers for the latter. Additionally, it made environmentally friendly investments by growing its electric and hybrid vehicle fleet. Finally, the company raised a significant amount for charity (over £8,000) in memory of its founder, John Kitchin, for The Salvation Army.

Shine Catering Systems
Shine is on its way to doubling its turnover from 2 years ago, through supply and installation of major projects throughout the UK. The increased revenue resulted in adding seven personnel, including project managers, Revit operators and document controllers. Shine is currently investing in a new Trumpf fibre laser to increase in-house fabrication capacities, following the addition of a new press brake. Its vehicle fleet has been changed to meet the new Euro6 standard, so that they can be driven in ultra-low emission zones. The distributor can now offer facilities management and instant contract budgeting via its web-based calculator.

Space Group
In the past 12 months, Space Group has delivered record profitable growth in a tough market, through moving into new sectors such as marine and iconic turnkey projects including Pinewood, Grand Hotel Brighton, The Hut Group, Assa Abloy and Cranswick Development Kitchens. The distributor has invested in its in-house capability to carry out fit out projects overseas, plus gained 11 professional accreditations for aspects including health and safety and environmental management. As well as significantly increasing staff training, the firm has invested over £50,000 in upgrading leading edge software for CRM, virtual and augmented reality.

Vision Commercial Kitchens
This year Vision had significant success in arena work, including Aberdeen arena, plus a variety of other sectors for both new and existing clients, including Fortnum & Mason’s new site in Hong Kong, the Silversands hotel resort in Grenada and a ninth site for Hickory’s Smokehouse. The distributor’s continuous investment into BIM/Revit technology has allowed for significant development within its design capability, with 100% of its designs now created using BIM/Revit. Investing even further in expanding its service offer has delivered a significant growth in PPMs over recent years.
