The Catering Insight Lifetime Achievement Award pays homage to an individual who has devoted their entire career to the catering equipment sector and given outstanding service to the industry.
That can certainly be said of this year’s recipient, Mike Nunn, MD of Dentons Catering Equipment, who has spent an incredible 45 years at the cutting edge of the catering equipment sector.
Following in his father’s footsteps at one of the industry’s oldest distributors, he spent these four decades working his way up to his current role.
He leads his Denton’s sales, project and installation teams from the front and works extremely hard to achieve excellence in all these areas, a fact which has not gone unnoticed by the distributor’s customers. He ensures that his company both embodies traditional values and welcomes new approaches and technologies.
He is ensuring the distributor goes from strength to strength too, as it posted a record turnover in 2016 and in the last 12 months the company has delivered every project on time – some even ahead of schedule.
His commitment to the industry has been outstanding over the last 45 years, and is further evidenced by his directorship at the industry’s longest-serving buying group, Cedabond.
Nunn’s skill at maintaining and developing relationships old and new ensures that suppliers, customers and competitors alike have the utmost respect for him and nothing but nice words to say.
His colleagues also praised his zeal in developing the next generation of talent as well, pointing out that he is always keen to share his knowledge with the younger members of the team.
Nunn said that the win means a lot to him. “Obviously we respect the opinions we get from everyone in the industry. And this is probably the only real occasion of the year where you get that. There are different occasions, different awards, but this is probably only the true award that is set aside for the industry alone.
“We’ve been attending the last three years and have been lucky enough to win before, so all the better!”
He added: “It’s a good night, well organised and the more it grows and the more people who get in here the bigger the room we’ll have to get!”
