The Catering Insight Distributor of the Year, North of England category, sponsored by Blue Seal, honoured a distributor excelling in the North, and there were so many of those this year that the voting suppliers had a hard time choosing.
The close contest ended in the top three being separated by just 9%. But pipping everyone else was GastroNorth, which has had its best trading year yet by growing on last year’s turnover by 25%.
The team is due to complete its largest supply and installation project at the City of Glasgow College, valued at £3.5m. It is ploughing its success back into the business, as it has invested £50,000 in a new development kitchen, with the latest kit, following its move into state of the art offices in Gateshead. The dealer has also taken delivery of 12 new vans for its service and maintenance support team.
GastroNorth director Richard Toye accepted the trophy and remarked: “This is an accolade for us but we invest this back into our company. We don’t take it all out or onto the gravy train; it goes back to bring young people into the business to keep this industry alive. That’s important for us because that’s how we got into it ourselves.”
