Catering Equipment of the Year 2014: REVEALED

Welcome to Catering Insight’s ‘Catering Equipment of the Year’ — your indispensable guide to the hottest and most eye-catching commercial foodservice appliances released in the UK this year!

2014 has been a phenomenal year as far as the evolution of new catering equipment is concerned, with significant product developments taking place in every silo of the market, from induction and refrigeration to prime cooking and warewashing.

And with it being a ‘Hotelympia year’, many suppliers sought to take advantage of the sales opportunities that a major show brings by introducing something fresh or enhanced to the market.

Story continues below

In order to recognise these developments, we decided to invite manufacturers, suppliers, importers and distributors to submit their nominations for this year’s best and most innovative kit. The only stipulation was that to be considered for inclusion, nominated products had to have been launched in the UK market after 1 January 2014.

The entries came in thick and fast ahead of the closing date for nominations so it hasn’t been easy whittling down the shortlist to the 50 items that you’ll see spread across the 10 categories featured below.

For each category we have also picked a ‘category winner’ — a badge of honour for the brands selling the kit that most stood out for us when judging the shortlist. Picking those winners was based on three criteria: innovation, functionality and commercial appeal. It has been a hugely progressive year as far as product development is concerned, and that is as much illustrated by the dozens of items of equipment that didn’t make it into the top 50 as those that did.

Manufacturers are clearly battling hard to raise the bar in terms of performance, efficiency and design, and the market place is a stronger environment for it.

You will almost certainly disagree with some inclusions or not understand certain omissions, but hopefully you’ll concur that the rest deserve their place in the spotlight.

Our intention is simple: to document the latest and greatest kitchen kit now available to the UK market and recognise the brands that have played their part in moving the industry forward over the past 12 months.

So, without further ado, please click on the links below and find out who made our top 50…
