Fiswal Catering Equipment has installed new refrigeration kit at a coffee shop and upmarket farm shop opened by Pimbo Garden Centre in Wigan.
The Merseyside distributor supplied and fitted a selection of equipment from True Refrigeration in the coffee shop kitchen, including a double door T49 fridge and T49 freezer with capacities of 1,388 litres (49 cubic feet) and a TSSU sandwich and salad prep unit, which has ingredients wells with a hinged lid on top.
A 538 litre single glass door cooler and a 1,388 litre double glass door freezer, meanwhile, meant into The Pantry, the adjacent farm shop.
Andrew Robinson of St Helens-based Fiswal said: “We like True cabinets because of the quality build and reliability. The extended warranty [three-year parts and five year compressors] is a big bonus for customers.”
As Pimbo is based in a village and the local power supply is unpredictable, the garden centre purchased gas-powered equipment for the kitchen where possible. Anything electric, such as the refrigeration, had to be as efficient as possible.
The uprights in The Pantry were specially ordered and contain a black finish to complement the interior.
With up to 80 covers to serve and the right level of refrigerated storage needed to keep all the local ingredients it sources fresh, Plimbo’s Andrew Rigby insists that getting the kitchen design right is vital to the garden centre’s fortunes.
“Catering is the fastest growing part of our sector,” he said. “We’ve invested heavily, but it’s the way to go. Now even on poor days we have customers on site. We have some clientele who come for the coffee shop, with no intention of looking at the plants.”
