Burglars trash equipment during cafe break-in

Last week, thieves broke into The Chocolate Bar in Rochdale, stealing a safe, trashing the building and even taking money donated for a charity appeal.

The venue had recently re-opened after a refurbishment 7 weeks prior to the incident, with the site also hosting The Feel Good Cafe.

The burglars broke in through the back of the restaurant and destroyed much of the new equipment, as well as pulling the safe from the wall and stealing numerous items, including the till, bottles of spirits, iPads, iPhones, a laptop and camera.

The Chocolate Bar’s manager Victoria Ballard told local newspaper, the Manchester Evening News: “It was a real mess. I can understand them taking the money, but the way they damaged everything and left it in that state was just unnecessary and it seemed to be really malicious.

“They didn’t stop us though. We were open by noon on the day of the break-in serving with a calculator and a carrier bag as a till.”
