Staff at Bunzl’s Catering & Hospitality Division have earned the company a place in the record books after creating the world’s largest water mosaic.
More than 300 employees and suppliers took three hours to fill 81,000 white plastic cups with 17,000 litres of different coloured water during the company’s recent annual conference at the O2 Arena in London.
Bunzl Catering & Hospitality Division’s boss, Matt Johnson, said the Guinness World Record team had set the bar high: “All 81,000 cups had to be filled with 200ml of different coloured water to replicate the Bunzl mosaic and every cup had to be touching – all carefully monitored throughout by three adjudicators.”
Bunzl held its 2012 conference around the theme of ‘Citius – Altius – Fortius’ (Faster – Higher – Stronger), an Olympic motto first used in the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris.
“The O2 Arena was a fitting venue for the 2012 conference, which will play host to the gymnastics and basketball finals at the Olympic Games this July,” said Johnson. “Our theme for the conference was based on Olympic disciplines and setting the bar high to achieve your goals, whilst looking beyond what you think you’re capable of achieving.”
Bunzl Catering & Hospitality Division comprises a number of companies including Bunzl Catering Supplies, Lockhart Catering Equipment and Continental Chef Supplies.
The Bunzl staff aren’t the only ones connected with the catering equipment industry to have broken a Guinness World Record just lately. FSCI consultants David Bentley and David Russell also made history after they were part of the largest ever group of people to flip pancakes non-stop for 30 seconds.
