London-listed Bunzl plc has added to its global catering equipment footprint by acquiring Pro Epta, a foodservice equipment distributor based in Mexico.
Pro Epta is a leading distributor of catering equipment throughout Mexico, operating three warehouses and eight showrooms. It is expected to achieve a turnover of MXN360m (£18m) this year, with much of its business coming from supplying kit to luxury hotels and restaurants.
Pro Epta is the third Mexican acquisition that Bunzl has made this year, but its first in catering equipment. It has also taken over Vicsa Safety and Espomega, both of which specialise in hospitality-led safety and personal protection products.
Michael Roney, chief executive of Bunzl, said: “The acquisition of Pro Epta further extends our business in Mexico into the catering equipment sector following the recent expansion into the safety sector with the acquisition of both Vicsa and Espomega. The business has a strong position in this promising market and we are delighted to welcome their employees to the Bunzl Group.”
Roney said that growth through acquisitions remained a “key component” in the ongoing development of the group.
Bunzl also revealed that group revenue for the third quarter increased 12% compared to the same period last year due to underlying growth of about 2% and the positive impact from acquisitions.
The company told investors it had a “strong cash flow and balance sheet, together with a promising acquisition pipeline”.
