Foodservice equipment supplier RH Hall, sole distributor of the Crown Verity BBQ range, staged the British BBQ Battle 2014 at Blenheim Palace last week.
This was the third annual British BBQ Battle. Main competition sponsors since the first event have been RH Hall, Crown Verity, Sharp and Simply Stainless, and this year the competition welcomed new co-sponsors: Lion Sauces and Calor Gas.
The cash equivalent of the pizes up for grabs amounted to £11,000.
Spurred on by seeing World BBQ Champion and President of the British BBQ Association Ben Bartlett in action, the chef finalists from pub; club & outdoor/event; university; and hotel categories took their places at their Crown Verity BBQ stations and were given one hour to recreate and present four servings of each of their three courses detailed on previously submitted menus.
Each cooking session was presided over by a judging panel which consisted of Ben Bartlett; Chris Basten and Martin Bates from the Craft Guild of Chefs and Bill Verity, President of Crown Verity who travelled from Canada for the event.
Verity took great pleasure in watching skilled chefs utilise every cooking surface the Crown Verity BBQ’s had to offer.
RH Hall was main sponsor of the event and all eight finalists were rewarded with a Sharp LED TV, a Simply Stainless Professional Chef’s table, full set of Lion Sauces and exclusive British BBQ Battle chef’s whites.
Group Executive Chef Graham Crump from the University of Warwick won the competition and walked away with a Crown Verity mcb-36 BBQ and accessories pack worth £3,000.
Ray Hall concludes: “It was a fantastic day of competition and congratulations to all the winners and special thanks to all the sponsors, including new partners AAK Foodservice (Lion sauces) and Calor Gas.”
