Bunzl Lockhart Catering Equipment is moving its Continental Chef Supplies (CCS) business to a new location from 29 July.
As a result, the light equipment specialist’s current sales office and warehouse operations at Peterlee near Durham will close, although the site will continue to be used as a logistics hub for other Bunzl UK businesses.
The main customer-facing sales office functions will transfer to Cumbernauld near Glasgow while the move will also give CCS access to a much larger new warehouse facility at Kenfig in south Wales.
The CCS showroom in Baker Street, London is unaffected and will continue to provide a central London location for customers interested in viewing the extensive CCS product range.
Commenting on the move, Steve Montgomery, MD of Lockhart said: “Following a thorough review of all aspects of CCS’ operations in the first half of 2019 it was increasingly obvious that we needed to make some important changes to the business.
“In particular we wanted CCS to be able to make better use of existing Lockhart capabilities and expertise in areas like operations, marketing and purchasing and this move will allow us to achieve that. The new warehouse will allow us to significantly expand the CCS product range and we already have a number of key new suppliers signed-up, all of whom will be featured in a new catalogue that we will be launching next month.”
He added: “Sales office functions will transfer to our Cumbernauld site while marketing and purchasing functions will transfer to Lockhart’s head-office in Theale where they will have access to an internal design studio and an experienced e-commerce team. We believe that this will allow us to significantly enhance the CCS proposition going forward.
“We are obviously consulting with colleagues at the Peterlee site who will be directly affected by these changes and whose roles are now at risk of redundancy. However, this move is now vital if we are going to revitalise the CCS proposition and genuinely differentiate it from competitors in what is a very competitive marketplace.
“We will be unveiling a lot of our exciting new plans for the future at The Restaurant Show on 30 September where CCS will have a major presence as well as being the official jacket sponsor for the National Chef of the Year competition.”
