Blanco Professional is refocusing its business in the wake of reporting its 2020 financial year results.
During those 12 months, the Germany-headquartered manufacturer generated sales of around €103m, a decrease of 14% compared to the previous year.
The export share, which is traditionally important for sales, fell by 8% in 2020 compared to 2019 due to the pandemic. This development was decisive for the decline in total sales.
The catering business unit was particularly hard hit by the effects of the pandemic. But the industrial business unit also had to face the extraordinary conditions of the past year, however, this division has reportedly been performing satisfactorily again since spring 2021.
Blanco Professional says a turnaround has now been successfully initiated and is already being reflected in the figures. The catering division has a new strategic focus on food serving and distribution, which the firm says is already beginning to pay off, alongside the realignment of the sales organisation. It is further expanding its proximity to customers and aiming to make its activities and functions even more efficient in the future.
The firm is using digital tools to assist in its restructuring. MD Egon Kofler explained: “We see digitisation as a double opportunity: on the one hand, we use digital tools to design processes in the company much faster and more efficiently than before, but we also see a strong strategic component in digital change: by aligning with customers to enable speed and individuality in interactions, we not only take into account the digital zeitgeist, but also create well-being experiences for our customers, thus deepening the relationship with them and creating the basis for further expanding this relationship.”
The new specialist dealer webshop with secure login for registered dealers, which has been available since the beginning of June, is an important step in this direction, the manufacturer believes. With this, Blanco Professional is expanding its sales in the direction of omnichannel offers in order to offer its partners in the specialist trade the optimal contact and ordering options for their respective purposes.
With this in mind, the webshop is intended to be the prelude to a targeted expansion of digital services and processes at all levels. Accordingly, Blanco Professional forecast that this sector is to be accelerated in the coming years and strengthened with further investments.
Kofler summed up: “The past 2 years, especially the Corona year 2020, have meant considerable challenges and also cuts for Blanco Professional and its employees. But the nadir has been passed. Our countermeasures are taking effect, and we are convinced that we have created the basis to be successful again in the medium and long term.”
