Conference Aston, which manages conference, hotel and event venues in Birmingham, is to embark on a multimillion pound refurbishment of its catering facilities.
Conference Aston is Birmingham’s largest residential conference venue, operating as part of Aston University’s commercial arm. It is located on the university’s city centre campus.
The organisation will undertake a complete revamp of its main kitchens and bar, as well as a new satellite kitchen as part of a build project that will begin after the summer.
A new conceptual design, as well as a detailed design of what the new facilities will entail, was recently carried out by foodservice consultancy Radford Chancellor Ltd.
During the evaluation process, its consultants engaged with all stakeholders within the project, including the end-user client, operational staff, architect and other project consultants.
Radford Chancellor Ltd provided Conference Aston with a final detailed project design of the kitchen and bar areas, including full product specification, services schedule and services drawings.
The company then tendered the project to a number of leading kitchen suppliers and subsequently evaluated the return bids, as well as managing site visits and answering questions from bidders.
Cheshire-based C&C Catering Equipment was appointed to supply and install the project within client budgets.
The overhaul of the catering operations is part of a £6m investment in improvement works by the university over the next three years.
The first phase of work, which also includes bedroom upgrades, is worth £2.4m and due for completion by February 2014.
