AMF swoops on bakery equipment rival

AMF Bakery Systems has completed the acquisition of Tromp Bakery Equipment, the Dutch supplier of commercial baking kit.

Tromp designs and manufactures sheeting lines for pie, pizza, pastry and bread bakers worldwide, and employs 80 staff.

Ken Newsome, president of US-based AMF, says the company has a reputation for “quality and innovation” in its specialist field and will strengthen its offering.

“As industrial bakers explore sheeting as part of their approach to bread make up, this gives us leading-edge technology to help our traditional AMF customers,” he explained. “This strategic addition enables us to leverage our position as a global leader in high-speed bread and bun bakery systems and expand our offering into the specialty bakery sector.”

Bas Tromp, founder of Tromp, will continue as president of the company as it begins life under new ownership. He said: “As I considered slowing down and thought about the future of my company, I wanted a place that would build on what we have accomplished. We have very similar values with AMF when it comes to innovation, taking care of our people, and especially taking care of our customers.”

Tromp was founded in 1985 and produces stainless steel food production lines for all aspects of the specialist bakery markets. The company also counts Den Boer and Vanderpol Baking Systems as members of its group, but these organisations are not included in the transaction.
