The Ali Group has revealed that its global operations now encompass 76 separate brands and 55 manufacturing facilities, as it officially celebrates half a century in business.
The Italy-based catering equipment powerhouse held a party at HOST last month to mark the fact that it is 50-years-old this year.
Luciano Berti, who remains the chairman and owner of the business, founded the dynasty in 1963 when he launched dishwashing equipment brand Comenda. Within a decade Comenda was drawing 70% of its sales from abroad, although it was the acquisition of US commercial dish machines firm Champion in 1980 that was credited with setting Ali Group on its way to becoming a global company.
Berti’s acquisition strategy has seen the business grow to employ 8,000 people in 26 countries. More famously, each individual brand that has been acquired remains in competition with other members of the group, rather than being folded into unified business units.
Following the acquisition of ice machine manufacturer Scotsman Industries last year, Berti said Ali
Group is now able to supply at least 90% of equipment in a professional kitchen.
“We are always looking at the future, ready to anticipate events and develop opportunities. We have a collection of very specialised brands at Ali Group,” he said.
As well as being a manufacturer, Ali also operates three catering equipment installation companies: Alicontract; Metos and Grandimpianti.
