A team from Bradford-based distributor Airedale is currently on-site at its largest ever Building Information Modelling (BIM) project to date.
The firm has designed the catering facilities for the University of Manchester’s new facility, the Manchester Engineering Campus Development (MECD).
This project, with an overall value in excess of £245m is one of the largest single site public sector live projects in this country, which accordingly means it is also one of the largest ever projects to have been delivered within BIM given the Government’s 2016 mandate.
MECD will be the single largest home for engineering in any UK university, and within this home the combination of the communities of staff and students, the spaces and the facilities is designed to deliver a vibrant and inspiring environment for teaching, learning and research.
With Airedale designing the facilities using Revit software and BIM models, the process should deliver fiscal savings across the whole lifecycle of this type of project, which means they are more likely to be delivered within budget and on time.
Various sections of the campus are due for completion over the next 18 months, with full occupation scheduled for April 2021.
