Kidderminster-based distributor Abraxas Catering Equipment has appointed Grant Shaw as operations manager.
He will assist in the scheduling of Abraxas’ regular service and maintenance jobs and manage the company’s planned preventative maintenance contracts throughout the West Midlands.
Shaw, who lives locally to the Abraxas office in Kidderminster, started his career in the industry in 1992, when he began working in a drawing office for a local catering equipment supplier.
Between 1993 and 2008 he held various roles at Francis Catering Equipment, before starting at Swift Maintenance Services in 2009. There he worked his way up to become group operations director by 2017.
His qualifications and experience using AutoCAD, in addition to his CFSP accreditation, should support him in his new role at Abraxas.
He explained: “I’m very excited to join the company as operations manager. Service and maintenance contracts are big business for the company; it’s essential that commercial kitchens have their equipment regularly inspected, maintained and replaced to avoid costly breakdowns.
“It will be my role going forward to efficiently manage our experienced engineers and schedule the jobs that they attend around the county.”
Shaw added: “The team have been very welcoming and have helped me settle into my new position.”
With regards to his role, he continued: “Over my 25 years or so within the industry I’ve seen a massive shift with regards to the importance of professional service and maintenance being carried out on a regular basis, be it reactive or preventative.
“It would be fair to say that there is more and more emphasis being placed on caterers these days with regards to meeting regulatory requirements and, as specialists within this field, we need to be advising and supporting our clients to not only be aware of their responsibilities but also to deliver cost effective solutions at every stage.”
