A salesman at ABM Catering for Leisure is preparing to take on a challenge bigger than any he has encountered in the catering equipment market: climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
John Bennett, key account manager at the Cardiff distributor, is embarking on the trip to Tanzania to raise money for Halcyon Training Foundation, a charity that assists families and careers who deal with people with autism.
Bennett, who has worked for ABM for eight years, will head to Africa in February for a seven-day hiking trip that will involve ascending nearly 6,000 metres to the summit of the dormant volcanic mountain.
He has already raised more than £1,700, but is hoping to reach a target of £4,000 before he flies out.
“When I heard that a trek was being organised to raise funds for autism, I was eager to get my name down on the list of participants to raise monies for this important charity,” he said. “I’m a very competitive person and love a good challenge. This particular trek will certainly provide that!”
The funds that Bennett raises for the autism charity will be used to provide training and qualifications to enhance lifelong learning, personal development and to assist in lowering conflict between individuals and communities.
Anyone from the industry who can help John reach his target can donate at his fundraising page here.
