A Rochdale college has been awarded a £65,000 grant to put towards new catering equipment for its revamped training facility.
Hopwood Hall College was given the grant by the Savoy Educational Trust, an independent charitable trust that promotes education, training and qualifications within the hospitality industry.
The Rochdale campus is in need of efficient and compliant equipment after undergoing a makeover that has seen the catering department consolidated onto a single floor.
The build and fit-out of two kitchens based on the site is predicted to cost more than £180,000, according to news site Rochdale Online.
Saf Arfan, director for corporate services at Hopwood Hall, was quoted as saying: “This is a massive amount of money and it will go a long way to providing the best equipment and facilities for our catering students in the two brand new training kitchens.
“We are very grateful to The Savoy Educational Trust for this generous contribution and their guidance throughout the process. The Trust funds some exceptional projects across the education sector and we feel highly privileged to have received this award.”
Hopwood Hall College recently announced that its catering department had been awarded a Silver accolade from the Hospitality Guild in recognition of its good practice and excellence in the delivery of hospitality training and qualifications.
In September, it will open a purpose-built state-of-the-art restaurant called ‘The Riverside’ at the Rochdale campus. The venue will be open for weekday lunches, evening meals and weekend events.
