Refrigeration maker Liebherr reached a landmark milestone this month after the 15 millionth appliance rolled off its production line in Lienz.
The Austria-based plant opened back in 1980 to support Liebherr’s existing manufacturing operations in Germany.
It originally produced chest freezers and within a year of opening was employing 250 people churning out 500 units a day.
Nowadays the 200,000 square metre site is more than four times its original size and is responsible for producing refrigerators and freezers, chest freezers and wine cabinets, including equipment for the commercial market. More than 1,300 staff are employed at the factory.
The 15 millionth product to be manufactured was a WTes 5872 wine cabinet, which is now displayed in the entrance area of the building.
Liebherr now builds more than 2.2 million appliances annually, with around 474,000 units made at the Lienz factory.
