A Norfolk kitchen house has received the biggest boost to its business yet after securing a contract to supply catering equipment for this summer’s Olympic Games.
Norwich-based Ideal Catering Solutions will supply bespoke extraction canopies to one of the biggest event caterers for the Games in a deal worth £100,000 to the company.
Ideal Catering Solutions owner, Iain Addison, told Catering Insight he received confirmation of the tender win last month, but has only just gone public about the deal after obtaining part payment in advance.
“I’ve had the order for about four weeks but because it is a big contract and we’re a family business, not a multimillion pound business, my project deal was 50% deposit and then 50% on completion. We received the deposit this morning.”
While the value of the project tops anything that Ideal has been involved with before, Addison expects the real business gains to come from the kudos the deal brings.
“It is more about the knock-on effect that this may have,” he said. “I am going to get it plastered on the website, I am going to do marketing with it and send a little note out with invoices to my existing clients, and I think it will raise the profile of Ideal Catering and actually make me win more prestigious contracts. There are a lot of suppliers for the Games , but most are big, well-established national suppliers doing fabrication. I would be very surprised if there is another family firm doing what we are doing.”
The contract will see Ideal provide extraction systems for around 60 marquee-based kitchens that events caterer Global Infusion Group is managing during the event.
It landed the contract due to the fact that as well being able to fabricate the extraction units, it devised a way of manufacturing mobile stands especially for marquees. The units are capable of withstanding the weight of the hoods and exhausting the fumes.
Addison said the company has until the end of June to build the canopies and confirmed that all fabrication work will take place locally.
Ideal Catering Solutions was formed six years ago and offers kitchen design and catering equipment as well as fabrication services.
