Standex Food Service Equipment’s National Key Accounts’ Manager, Barnaby Wright, and his partner Liz, took part in the Hotelympia 10k run, which has become the traditional curtain raiser for the exhibition.
The race took place on Sunday 26th February, with two loops of a 5k course in London’s Docklands, stretching from ExCeL to the Royal Albert Docks. The official starter was 1984 Olympic 1500m silver medallist, Steve Cram MBE.
Over 1,000 competitors of all abilities took part, supporting the Springboard Charity, which helps young unemployed and disadvantaged people improve their prospects and economic well being.
Barnaby and Liz, completed the course in an hour. Barnaby secured over £400 of sponsorship, which has been donated to the charity for the homeless, Shelter From The Storm.
Shelter From The Storm is a UK registered charity and London’s only free shelter, providing hot meals and a warm bed to homeless people 365 days a year. The charity receives no government support and depends entirely on donations to fund its activities.
Barnaby stated: “It was a gruelling ordeal and a lot harder than I had expected, but thoroughly worthwhile in generating funds for such a deserving cause. I am hoping that one of my colleagues will take up the baton for the Hotelympia 10k run in 2014.”
