Staff at Tyne and Wear distributor RDA took to the saddle yesterday in support of ‘National Cycle to Work Day’.
The initiative is championed by multi-gold medal winning Paralympic cyclist Sarah Storey and aims to encourage everyone to get on their bikes and pedal to work on September 4.
According to census data, 760,000 people in the UK cycle to work regularly, but organisers hope the event will help boost that number.
RDA’s senior CAD technician, Stew Mack, cycles to RDA’s office in Hepburn every day regardless of the weather, but yesterday other members of staff such as Stephen Rochester and Alex Bradley also ditched their usual means of transport to cycle in.
“RDA is very supportive of Stew and we also encourage all the team to engage in healthy lifestyles,” said managing director Roy Addyman. “The company runs an internal squash club and also takes part in a 5-a-side football league. The health and welfare of our team is paramount.”
