South Coast Catering Equipment has revealed that its plans for expansion in 2014 involve trying to gain a stronger foothold in the London market.
The East Sussex-based distributor has always done work in and around the London area, but is keen to step up its focus on the capital as it bids to grow the business.
The 22-strong company has been eyeing up potential sites for a London office and is shortening its name to SCCE when dealing with London clients.
Recently it hired Janey Hansen, formerly of Falcon and Hansens, to spearhead its sales efforts in London and the Home Counties, and it is now looking to hire a sales consultant to offer additional firepower.
“At the moment we are looking around [at sites] but we are going to open,” says managing director Mike Barnes. “We want to expand and we want to get more involved in London.”
The vibrancy of the London market, with its constant string of restaurant and hotel openings, continues to attract distributors from far and wide. But Barnes says the ferocity of the competition doesn’t put the company off.
“A lot of the catering equipment firms from the north are all coming into London,” he says. “If you were to have a tracker on every catering equipment company car or van, my God, London would light up like New Year’s Eve when they let the fireworks off! But no battle has ever been won on a retreat. You just go straight in. It is no good being frightened of your competition.”
As well as expanding its sales operations, South Coast is currently looking to recruit a full-time CAD designer/estimator to run its kitchen design department, based at its head office in Hailsham.
Details of both roles can be found here.
2014 marks South Coast Catering Equipment’s 42nd year of trading and it remains as hungry as ever to grow its turnover.
“Our attention to detail and industry experience, together with our high levels of customer service, have been key to our continued success,” says Barnes. “We have ambitious expansions plans in 2014 and I’m already looking forward to preparing for the company’s 50th anniversary.”
