Bidvest Foodservice has opened a state-of-the-art Business Support Centre and depot in Slough in what marks a “new chapter” for the organisation.
Based in a 117,000 sq. ft purpose-built facility, the new centre will increase capacity for growth in the southern region, create additional opportunities for employment in the local area and improve the level of service the company offers its customers.
The facility has been designed for Bidvest Foodservice by SEGRO and KMG Partnership, and combines both the company’s Business Support Centre, housing central functions such as buying, marketing and the supply chain team, and the depot itself.
The move creates an opportunity for office teams to work more closely with the depot, thus getting closer to the customer and developing efficiencies across the business, as well as building better working practices.
An ambitious design and construction project, the building features a purpose-designed presentation kitchen, a ‘Smart Store’ (a ground-breaking vending machine and mini store), a contemporary coffee lounge, a modern staff canteen and a commercial kitchen.
John Woolford, general manager of the Slough depot, said: “As the UK’s leading foodservice provider, our mission is to deliver service excellence, make life easier and help our customers grow.
“Our new site in Slough is absolutely fundamental to this. Not only does it provide a fresh, new working environment with ground-breaking industry technology where our employees can thrive and grow, but it will benefit customers too. Its location on the M4 corridor extends our reach in the southern region by putting us at the heart of the area we supply and marks our commitment to cutting food miles too.”
Bidvest staff celebrated the opening of the site by joining forces to pull one of the company’s 18 tonne lorries across the entrance of the building.
