A session Leading French restaurant Bistrot Pierre has opened its first Bistrot-sur-la-mer within the new Abbey Sands development on Torquay seafront.
The restaurant worked with Gloucester-based Space Catering Equipment on the kitchen aspect of the project.
Around £140,000 was invested in developing the kitchen, with the main cooking equipment understood to be supplied by MKN.
As well as the core Bistrot menu, the Torquay restaurant has created a bar menu offering freshly cooked tarte flambees, local seafood and an extensive gluten-free menu.
“This will be the first time we have had food unique to the bar,” said co-founder Robert Beacham. “Each of our bistrots is styled to complement the building it is in and, while our look changes between them, customers can expect the same attentive service and high quality French cookery every day.
“However we felt that this, our first bistrot literally by the sea, warranted something extra special.”
The promenade venue was once the site of the town’s Palm Court Hotel. It is the group’s 12th opening and its second in Devon following the launch of a restaurant in Plymouth last year.
