Rival catering equipment bosses now on same side

Three kitchen equipment executives who have spent the best part of their careers competing against each other are now on the same side after joining forces, it has emerged.

Tom Cummings, formerly of commercial catering equipment firm Howell-Cummings, has just been named field sales executive for the Food Service Equipment division of Upnorth Group, where he will work alongside Upnorth directors Richard Toye and Tim Whitfield.

The trio is more used to being in competition with one another, as Whitfield previously ran Quay Catering Solutions until it was bought by Gateshead-based Upnorth Group at the end of last year.

Cummings said he was excited to be working with the pair in a role that will see him tasked with bringing in bigger contracts from across the country.

“Our combined contacts, strengths and experience will help grow the business to the next level, increasing the service and sales of the catering equipment side of the business,” said Cummings.

Toye, meanwhile, says Cummings’ appointment is part of a wider growth plan that involves doubling the size of the business, creating more jobs in the North East and expanding its consultancy operations.

“Being a member of many organizations, including NECTA (North East Culinary Trade Association), LACA (Local Authority Catering Association) and HCA (Hospital Catering Association), the addition of Tom will help us to gel our experiences together which will open up more opportunities for us,” he said.

“As a group, it means that we can also look to be associated with the FCSI to enable the group to be prominent in major projects and to develop the energy-saving side of the catering division, utilising the whole of Upnorth Group as a fully servicing business.”

Upnorth Group specialises in providing a wide range of services in commercial refrigeration, air-conditioning, LZC heating, food service technologies and ventilation systems.
