Restaurant part of English National Opera’s £1.2m revamp

A £1.2m transformation of English National Opera is set to lead to the creation of a new wine bar and café in its ground-floor foyer as it bids to entice new visitors.

The company is joining forces with Ben Warner, founder of Benugo, to offer budget-friendly food from breakfast to evening.

Options will range from a three-course set menu in a new basement restaurant with room for 65 covers to miniature sausage rolls and craft beers.

The venue aims to tailor its catering to themed shows, but its priority will be to encourage new visitors during the day when the building is under-utilised.

Fit-out details weren’t disclosed but Benugo will fund the work, including opening up architectural features currently hidden in the grade 2-listed coliseum.

The Evening Standard reported that the transformation would begin in September and take 12 months to complete.
