Regale lowers entry point for ‘start button’ microwaves

Regale Microwave Ovens is set to market a new model from Daewoo that it claims breaks new ground in its category.

The company insists Daewoo’s new manual control 1100 watt light duty commercial microwave is unlike the majority of similar spec machines in the same price bracket as it features a separate start button.

“The Daewoo KOM9M11S oven is expected to be sold to end-users at a price in the region of £249 plus VAT. The only other 1000 watt manual control microwave with this feature is almost twice the trade price,” said Regale’s managing director, Pat Bray.

Regale claims that models from brands that don’t have the start button have proved troublesome for chefs as they are inclined to place food in the cavity and just spin the timer dial to ‘anytime’ to start cooking, so that as soon as they turn the timer dial the microwave immediately starts cooking.

“If the chef notices that the food is ready before the timer actually stops, and opens the door, when the food is removed from the cavity and the door is closed the microwave immediately starts up again with nothing inside the cavity,” said Bray. “This can be disastrous. Mainly it can burn out the magnetron or cause ceramic bases to smash and in extreme cases can even catch fire.”

Bray said that if manufacturers discover the cause of any magnetron problem is linked to the oven being ‘switched on’ empty, they will class it as “user mis-use” and refuse to carry out free repair under their warranty policy.

“This is why Regale Microwave ovens have not sold manual control microwave ovens without start buttons for many years and why we suggested and helped Daewoo to design and introduce a safe, well-priced entry microwave oven which is user friendly.”

Bray said Regale had now taken receipt of its first consignment of the new Daewoo models and will be showcasing them at stand 1354 at Hotelympia.
