The former owner of a commercial refrigeration company bought by Toshiba Carrier is aiming to make his mark in the industry again with a new business selling catering equipment.
Martin Porter spent six years at Toshiba after selling Apex Commercial Refrigeration and Air Conditioning in 2007, but left the company earlier this year to set up on his own.
He officially formed Rex Martins back in April, but the operation has only started actively trading inside the last eight weeks.
The Dartford-based outfit exhibited at The Restaurant Show last week and will appear at the Independent Hotel Show later this month as it bids to get its name on the map.
Rex Martins lists more than 20 catering equipment brands on its website, including Hobart, Falcon, Foster, Lincat, Manitowoc and Winterhalter.
Porter said: “Having previously just been focused on refrigeration it is exciting to be doing all these other things — the range extends from light to heavy equipment. We’ve now got a few brands on board, we’re designing a new website and we intend to be very focused on providing technical support for the end-user.”
Porter expects the majority of the company’s business to come from telephone and online sales, although it is still in the process of developing an ecommerce function for its website.
