Rational UK’s development chef, Matt Healy, has reached the semi-finals of MasterChef: The Professionals this week, and has the final in his sights.
Starting his career at the age of 15 washing-up at a local Italian restaurant in Leeds, Healy progressed to commis jobs. After finishing high school he attended the Thomas Danby Catering College in Leeds, where he studied for his City & Guilds.
After working locally, he met and worked for Simon Shaw at El Gato Negro, commencing as sous chef and shortly after received promotion to head chef as Simon let Matt take the reins.
After 3 years and many accolades including; 5 stars in the Good Food Guide, Bib Gourmand in the Michelin guide, being entered into the Remy Martin/Hardens Guide and winning best local Spanish restaurant on the popular Gordon Ramsey show The F Word, Healy moved to London and began working under Pascal Wiedermann at the very popular Terroirs Wine Bar. He was promoted to senior sous chef and Healy enjoyed working here for 2 years.
“I’m really excited to have this opportunity to cook for Marcus, Monica and the other exceptionaly talented contestants,” said Healy.
MasterChef: The Professionals airs Tuesdays to Thursdays, broadcast at 8pm on BBC Two.
