Restaurant and pub group Mitchells & Butlers has opened a state-of-the-art training academy featuring brand new kitchen facilities designed by TT Catering Solutions.
The academy, based at the company’s Birmingham retail support centre, will provide a place for staff to take part in learning and development programmes, as well as road shows, workshops and forums for up to 250 people.
Tamworth-based TT Catering updated and redesigned an existing kitchen to accommodate the new training centre and its requirements.
The original kitchen’s role was simply to cater for the lunchtime needs of staff at the Mitchells & Butlers head office.
As the new training facility emerged, however, it was necessary to adapt this kitchen in order to continue its current function with the addition of catering for large conferences along with carrying out menu trials when needed.
A new back of house glass wash station was also required for the new training bar and would become an integral part of the project.
“Getting a small area to function well as a kitchen that can also deliver large volume production whilst keeping costs down required careful streamlined planning,” said project manager Simon Key.
“Getting the equipment and layout right means that all the food can be produced as and when needed without compromising the service,” he added.
