Presentation drives profits for restaurants

Discerning diners are demanding more from their restaurants than ever before, creating sales opportunities for suppliers ranging from kitchen equipment to tableware.

Presentation is just as important as the food, according to a survey commissioned by Steelite International this month, which found that 81% of people consider the quality of tableware is important or very important when choosing to eat out and 70% appreciate a well-presented table.

A well presented table can also drive up prices, with 60% of diners expecting a higher level of tableware the more they pay for a meal.

Although the survey asked mainly about presentation at the table, its findings are sure to be picked up by equipment suppliers across front and back of house.

Almost half of of diners told the Steelite researchers that they are unlikely to return to an establishment if the table is poorly presented, a figure likely to be matched if diners are asked about presentation throughout the establishment, such as open kitchens and serving stations.
