A service that encourages better food hygiene practices among catering workers has been named the ‘best product’ of the year at a recent awards ceremony for food hygiene and technology professionals.
The ‘Insight’ service developed by testing specialist NSF International in partnership with Cognisco, an expert in assessing work force competence, aims to improve the knowledge of food industry employees to advance consumer safety and offer greater protection to businesses.
‘Insight’ gives employers a new approach to assessing employee competence by delivering complete insight into the anticipated performance of their workforce.
The assessments have implications for the catering equipment sector as they identify employee training needs and knowledge gaps or areas of misunderstanding that could threaten safety standards or put the business at risk, as well as offering measurable tools for improvement.
By using ‘Insight’ a culture of continuous food safety can be created and maintained by managers and supervisors within the food industry.
Mary Clarke, CEO of Cognisco, said: “Only by improving the competence and confidence of employees and changing food safety culture will consumer safety improve. Insight is already delivering compelling results for clients in the industry, which will help raise safety standards, reduce consumer risks and protect businesses.”
Insight has been rolled out across the UK, Europe and the US. NSF even worked with the Food Standards Agency to deliver one-to-one food safety coaching for 2,000 businesses across 32 local authorities involved in Olympics activities this summer.
