West Midlands service and repair firm Newco Catering Equipment has delivered its largest scheme to date as it continues to expand the project side of its business.
The company designed, supplied and installed two staff canteen operations for Lear Corporation, a global manufacturer of automotive seating systems with facilities in Coventry.
Both kitchens were built from scratch and were not refurbishments of legacy facilities.
“One of the kitchens will supply catering for 300 employees on the warehouse floor and the other will serve approximately 100 office staff and visiting customers,” explained Dean Johnson, sales manager at Newco.
With a fixed budget to work from, Newco specified a number of brands to deliver the client’s daily cooking requirements.
Electrolux provided the prime cooking equipment, dishwashing units and refrigeration cabinets, while Foster coldrooms, Rational combi ovens and Moffat Versicart units were also supplied for the scheme, which had a value in the region of £150,000.
“This was the largest project to date that Newco has taken on and we project-managed the design right the way through to handover,” said Johnson.
“The fit-out was completed in one week by our own install team and the client was very happy with the finished product. We will now manage the service contract after the warranty expiration with a maintenance contract using our 20 qualified catering engineers.”
Newco remains a kitchen service and maintenance firm at heart, but the past 12-18 months have seen it ramp up the level of catering equipment sales it does.
Last year it invoiced £1m in new equipment sales and Johnson says it is aiming to top that this year. “We are looking to achieve £1.3m this year due to the growth in our project work,” said Johnson.
