Nayati, along with distributor Fatboys Catering Equipment, has completed the install of a giant bespoke buffet system that was put into place under the cover of darkness.
The 1,600kg Gourmet Master unit went into the new Leicester premises of Asian and European cuisine specialist Red Hot World Buffet after it specified a bespoke solution for griddled and barbecued meats, including Halal.
The order came in two parts: the first being the supply of loan equipment to cater for its immediate needs and meet the planned opening date, and the second being the design and manufacture of a tailored island unit.
Nayati’s factory turned around the build phase in two weeks, leaving less than six weeks for delivery to the UK.
However, the challenge of a short lead time was nothing compared to the actual task of getting the equipment into place and ready for service.
One evening earlier this month, when the restaurant had closed for business at 10.30pm, the Nayati team worked through the night to lift, manoeuvre and get the unit into position.
“Loading bay hand rails had to be removed, while the unit needed to be positioned on the decking with enough room to lift it by hand onto its side,” explained Nayati UK chief Stuart Campbell.
“It then needed to be moved into the building through a door space that was just 5mm higher than the unit itself.”
Once inside, the unit had to be moved into a position where it could be lowered onto its base and then manoeuvred into position under an installed canopy and gas supply.
Some six and a half hours later, the equipment was in place and ready to be connected.
“The operation was incredibly challenging, but the unit was fully operational for the next day’s service with product training completed by 11am,” said Campbell.
The island unit consists of a one piece top bespoke unit, featuring three gas barbecue grills and two flat griddles, with cupboards and open storage on both sides.
