Mike Butt has today begun as the MD of Glen Dimplex Professional Appliances (GDPA) after spending 7 months in the same role for distributor, Airedale.
Prior to that, he was Ali Group brand Dawson Food Service Equipment’s MD from January 2009 to January 2015.
Butt told Catering Insight: “I had a really great time at Airedale and it’s given me a detailed understanding of the project side of the business, which will stand me in good stead.
“However, the opportunity at Glen Dimplex came along and it was too good to turn down.”
Airedale’s marketing manager, Peter Walker, who himself has just swapped from a similar role at fellow distributor, Garners Food Service Equipment, echoed this sentiment, saying: “Mike had an offer from Glen Dimplex he felt he could not refuse and so regrettably the company accepted his resignation.”
Butt praised GDPA, saying it is in a similar position to Dawson when he took that on – having “fantastic” brands and doing well in the marketplace.
“Glen Dimplex is a huge multinational organisation and having those resources and manufacturing expertise to pull on will be really helpful for me to exploit the potential in both the catering and the medical sectors I am responsible for,” he said.
His aim in his new role will be to broaden GDPA’s market reach, and he signalled that there are “some exciting developments afoot”. Although he could not specify what these are as of yet, he hinted that they would be in the refrigeration and foodservice equipment arena.
“GDPA has a huge amount of technical and research and development resource within the group to help support that drive,” he commented.
Butt will be re-locating from Holmfirth to Merseyside in order to be nearer to his new office in Prescot, Liverpool.
He added: “I am really looking forward to reengaging with the customers that supported me while I was at Dawson.”
