Scott Walker’s design and project management for CHR’s outfit of the 18th century Dawnay Arms inn in the picturesque village of Newton on Ouse was so good that the kitchen won the prestigious CEDA Small Projects Grand Prix Award this year.

And it’s no wonder, when the scheme has already saved chef proprietor Martel Smith £11,000 in energy bills after just 1 year in operation.

One of the many energy-efficient installations by CHR, Scott ensured that this tricky fit out was completed on time.

The Dawnay Arms kitchen features CHR’s Eco-Chef bespoke cooking suite as the heart of the kitchen refurbishment.

Indeed it was the 25th Eco-Chef to have been designed and supplied by CHR since the suite’s launch in 2012.

As the site is a very old building, access was difficult. The previously-installed range was lifted in with a wall removed to the kitchen and built up after, so therefore Scott ensured the Eco-Chef range was built in sections, which made delivery and installation very simple and kept closure to a bare minimum.

His foresight meant that when his project team was presented with a prepared, bare shell on sight, they installed the Eco-Chef with minimum fuss and disruption. The outfit took just two and half days in all.

Scott was born and bred in the Lake District and has enjoyed a wide career within the industry, from a teenage pot wash boy to an award-winning chef, as well as front of house experience as a restaurant/bar and hotel manager.

He even qualified as a wedding ceremony toastmaster!
